Simon Sweater by Faina Goberstein

This year the Anzula booth at Stitches West was full of not only more yarn than ever, but also more patterns and samples. One that drew a lot of attention all weekend was this new design by Faina Goberstein, the Simon sweater.

Knit in Oasis, this sweater runs toward the masculine but is certainly versatile enough to be worn by anyone.

Simon is a classic sweater that Faina says is easy enough to be a great travel project. Yet it was created with enough detail to keep the knitting and finished sweater interesting.

Oasis is a silk and camel blend, making it a great choice for those who avoid wool. Faina also has a wonderful, slouchy hat pattern created from Oasis, called Al Fresco.

Little Cable Knitalong with Anzula

When the members of Team Anzula started considering a knitalong, we talked about more than a few different patterns. However, when we passed around the idea of doing these socks, the decision was unanimous.

The Purl Bee released the pattern for the Little Cable Knee High socks in November of 2012. These socks are made from Squishy, in Seaside. We love the knee-high length, the classic cable detail, and the cute turn-down cuff.

Before starting the socks, we each chose two skeins in Squishy and Dreamy, but you could also choose two skeins of Sebastian. Kim is knitting in Slate, Sabrina picked Watermelon, Diane is currently obsessed with Fiona, Becca liked Coco, Sylvia chose Chiva, and Meg is going to wear 1 Red Shoe.

Not long after this photo of our yarn choices was taken, Charlie revealed her penchant for Petunia. Kim slipped off to the dye room to create a couple of Dreamy skeins especially for her, replacing her original choice of Teal that you can see in the photo.

Besides your skeins of yarn, you will need the correct circular or double-pointed needles to achieve gauge (the pattern calls for size #2), scrap yarn and a crochet hook for the provisional cast on, and a cable stitch holder. You'll also need to visit the Purl Bee for the free pattern

We are all at different levels of knitting prowess so we hope that beginners as well as experienced knitters choose to knitalong with us. For beginners, we'll be posting helpful links at every step of the way. For experienced knitters, we hope that you'll share your own links and tips, and just enjoy having company as you knit a beautiful pair of socks. You can see our updates on the blog and our Facebook page, and participate in the Anzula group on Ravelry.

Featured Project: Immie Tee in our Squishy

We are excited about starting up our Featured Project series again. How excited?

DefiKNITely this excited.

Erika, a.k.a. DefiKNITely, was gracious enough to share with us a couple of Immie tees she knit from our Squishy. The Christmas Immie was a gift she gave to her daughter on Christmas morning. I'm fairly certain Santa's elves aren't knitting with Squishy, so she's a very lucky girl!

For this project, Erika chose Au Natural to maximize the versatility of the piece within her daughter's wardrobe. We think it's adorable over her brightly colored dress!

Erika says that she chooses Squishy because of its softness and the subtle color variations in each skein. This Immie she knit in Dusty Rose showcases those variations.

Erika purchased her yarn at Purl Soho. You can visit our map to find the LYS near you that carries Anzula. If your LYS carries Anzula but not Squishy, they can place a special order for you.
